Hello Everyone, The paintings you see behind me are mine. The ones that didn't sell, hang on the walls of the apartment. Abstract Painting was not my first medium. It took me a while to simplify the concept of beauty to create its significance in abstract expression. I'm hoping the next two years will spark a new artistic expression. This time I think the new movement will be about listening to your heart and not the greed for money. In my last post I said, I was going to look for a new pizza recipe.

This year I am not buying new clothes. Last year I shopped at the Army & Navy store because I support "Made is the USA". I saw these two lovely purses from the 60'-70's era online at Dandelion Vintage. What a sleek red beautiful shape. The brown leather has never been used.
With all the health facts and proven science of "Why you should Exercise", I still have a lazy nature about it. This year I have kept my early morning goals of stretching and doing a twenty minute walk. Yes, I was out in the bad rainy/snowy cold days. The benefits are my lungs expanding for more air and my immune system getting a boost. The other types of exercise I am avoiding , are weight training and the low cardio that my body needs.(I am whining about it). I do need to activate the sweat glands to release the toxins as well as mentally detoxifying. Exercise is a great stress burner. I need to create having fun and a positive attitude. The reality is I'm getting older and I must include physical activity at all ages of my life.
I passed by a bakery and got a whiff of Sweet Potato Pie baking. All I can have is gratitude that one time I could woof down three servings of Sweet Potato Pie. I had a full amount of that in my young life. Now, it is important to take care of my health. Back then my health was not a priority. Where to get the best dessert after dinner was. I remember traveling at night to Brooklyn for Junior's Blueberry cheese cake. Now, I'm glad I will not have to be sick again from the dairy products anymore. What was so fun in the beginning of going raw was learning how to make my own Raw version of pie by using of few of the old ingredients I used when baking a pie. To make my own raw version of sweet potato pie is a basic walnut and coconut crust, yams, soaked dates and raisins, fresh orange juice, almond butter, cinnamon, nutmeg , ginger and honey to taste. Yummy !
I'm looking for other versions of Live Pizza to make over the weekend. I'll get back to you on that one.
I will leave you with a Strawberry-Banana-Romaine smoothie 1 cup of strawberries 2 bananas 1/2 bunch romaine 2 cups of water. Enjoy !
A Warmth of love comes over me every time I listen to "Imagine" by John Lennon. My heart hears the message "WE ARE ALL ONE". You can hear John's love and understanding for humanity as You listen to the lyrics. This is the only song that gives me hope for now. I used to think that world peace was just a fairy tale. But now, I see it as a mission worth fighting for. You may ask the question....How? The answer is simple.......... "World peace starts with me". John Lennon knew that creating the new humanism depends on all of us. Establishing the dignity of human life is the one important thing we need to start believing in.
While looking at other videos of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, I notice the olive drab Army & Navy Jackets that he and Yoko One were wearing in a few of them. Before there was Banana Republic, Gap and a few well known chain stores, there was the forever Army Navy Stores . I remember buying my first Olive drab field jacket that I wore with everything. The Army jacket was a cool trend back in the 80's. We didn't know back then we were creating a classic . It took decades later, the Army Jacket is a staple that makes any outfit you put together cool chic. This one is a vintage (never been used) Danish field jacket. I went back to my fashions roots shopping at "Uncle Sam's - Army Navy Outfitters. You can go online at www.armynavydeals.com to get discounts. The New York Store is located at 37 west 8th street new york n.y. 10011. Phone 674-2222.
I couldn't pass up these great skirts. US Air Force dress skirt in navy blue and Parachuteskirt in a classic olive drab. Both skirts are knee length and the olive drab has a string tab at the bottom that I can pull .
How can I not complete the outfit without my South African shoulder bag.

Note: The Grapefruit is another citrus fruit that was cultivated in India more that 4,000 years ago. Now the USA cultivates 97 percent of the worlds supply. The Grapefruit is a subtropical fruit and is highly alkaline in reaction. It is best eaten with other acids fruits and nuts. It is very rich in vitamins C and B. Grapefruit rind has a valuable vitamin P, which is important for healthy gums and teeth.
Felt like being in the blue hue today. I'm wearing a vintage dark blue hat, leopard print scarf from "Iman" Global chic collection , vintage gold chain belt and a sweater dress from "Made in America outlet".
This week, I missed saying hello to those of you who read my blog. My mom has been very ill since December. Last year I shared briefly about my Mom's Multiple Sclerosis disease. This week She had a medical test. Her doctor wants to know exactly what the Multiple Sclerosis is doing. We know it is active once again (like an angry Volcano erupting). Plus she had another complication that had her on pain management for the past two weeks. What an ordeal it has been. I have gained so much by witnessing her strength, her love for life and how she is determine to see another birthday in 2011. My mom has taught me the "Never give up Spirit" by her actions. I am learning it is the most painful events that happen in our lives that shape the qualities in ourselves we value the most. This is the reason why forgiveness and gratitude will be the focus for me. I strive to be inspired by these two words. When she was first diagnose with the disease I felt powerless, angry and helpless. There were times I felt guilty for being healthy and one time I blamed her for coming down with it. It was not easy hearing a doctor telling you that some one you love may not live a long life. In spite of what has been said, she has been living and fighting every step of the way. It was challenging in the past to shift my focus from a negative view of things to what I am gaining. It has been a breakthrough learning to be grateful for the positive experiences and for the negative experiences. For the year of 2011 I want to practice forgiveness and gratitude so my life can become even more enjoyable and to keep that positive impact on my health. The raw "Garden Burgers " I made last week, I place half of the mixture into the dehydrator and made a tasty cheese like topping for my squash spaghetti and tomato sauce. The topping has been good on top of salad dishes too.
Note: Winter Squash contains more vitamin A than summer squash. High in potassium and a sodium food that leaves an alkaline ash in the body. Great support for the eliminative system.
I found some nice looking parsnips to make some raw soup and I remembered seeing a recipe for Raw Japanese Rice in the "The Raw Food Detox Diet " by Natalia Rose. I will make this instead.
Japanese "Rice"1 cup of chopped parsnips 1/2 cup raw pine nuts 2 tablespoons raw honey 1 tablespoon rice vinegar 3 tablespoons raw teriyaki sauce
Pulse the parsnips, pine nuts, honey and vinegar until the mixture starts to look like brown rice. Add the sauce and mix well. This will make a great side dish. Enjoy !

I went into the vintage shop Rags A GO GO (218 W. 14st. of from 7th Avenue) to say hi to the owner of the store. This is how our first conversation for the New Year went .
The store owner : "This year is going to be a good year. Do you know why?
Me: Oh , I know, the numerology numbers for the New Year 1-1 -11
The store owner : No, that's not the reason.
Me: What is ?
The store owner: You are going to see many changes in this country because the 2012 elections are coming up and the politicians are going to work very hard to pass as many laws and policies as possible. They want to please the American public. They want votes.
I thought that was funny. I look forward to shopping and having more interesting conversations .
I was out and about at Washington Square Park. I hoping for more brighter day light to take pictures
I was looking at the architect designs on several buildings on Greenwich street. I notice this beautiful vine that grew on the whole side of one of the buildings. It was winter yet this vine had moist berries. How encouraging to know that Winter will always turn into spring.
For the New Year, I'm keeping one of Victoria Boutenko books"12 steps to Raw Foods" (How to End Your Dependency on Cooked Food) in my bag when I pass by something tempting as hot cocoa. I had to take a picture of the design in the milk-cream. This is an art form. I will tittle this - "NEW LEAF GROWING for 2011". Now to create a Raw Hot Chocolate version would be fantastic.
From the "Raw Foods " Victoria Boutenko book I prepared these "live Garden burgers". Very tasty.
LIVE GARDEN BURGERS Grind 1 pound of your favorite nuts or seeds in a food processor. Remove ground nuts to a bowl. Then combine the following ingredients and grind in a food processor. 1 pound carrots (or carrot pulp left after juicing carrots) 1 medium onion 1 tablespoon sweetener (agave nectar, dates, or raisins) 1 tablespoon oil 1-2 tablespoon poultry seasoning ( or herb seasoning) Celtic sea salt to taste (optional)
If the mixture is not firm enough, add one or two of the following thickeners: dried dill weed, dried garlic, dried onion, dried parsley, ground flax seeds. Form into balls, cutlets, or fillets and sprinkle with paprika shortly before serving. Note: If you want "fish" burgers, add seaweed (dulse, kelp, or other seaweed) to the mixture. Enjoy!
