Hello Everyone,
They say Sprouting is easy. In the beginning I did my research. I will confess , it was not easy for me . Having So many failed attempts. I was ready to give up . The problem was the bacteria and mold. I started to doubt if I could follow this Raw Food Lifestyle. I decided to give it one more try- and wallah !! I sprouted my first Quinoa grain.
Here's some quick facts about Sprouting.....The nutritional value increases and makes the protein in the sprouts more digestible. The starches are broken down into simple sugars and the fats are converted into soluble fatty acids. A good plus, Sprouting increases the enzyme content . For those of you wondering if Raw Food eaters get enough protein..... yes we do. It takes responsibility to eat the sufficient amount of protein daily. In my case , I eat two varieties daily. It is either grains, lentils , beans or seeds.
In my humble beginnings , I purchased all the equipment needed for sprouting which included the books, the cheese cloth, the sprouting jars, mesh bowls and screens. Now a days an ordinary steel wire drainer and paper towels does the work.
Here are the basic steps .
- soaking either the grains , lentils , beans or seeds
- then drain and rinse well . The rinsing is important
- cover with paper towel- Set aside in a well ventilated place to grow
- Rinse and drain well twice a day . Certain grains or beans will need more rinsing.
- After a few days check to see if they have sprouted . Then rinse , drain well and put them in the refrigerator.
Note: It helps to get a book on sprouting.
Quinoa is a grain I use for my morning cereal. It is one of the fast grains to sprout. I love to mix Buckwheat with this.
One cup of Dry Quinoa will need three hours to soak. The sprouting time in one to two days and it will yield three cups.

Thank you for reading and have a great day.
